Ok so here it is…the final match up of 5th

Ok so we played a NOVA style game with primary being kill
points (have to win by 4 or more), secondary being objectives, and lastly table
quarters. Deployment was pitched battle.
I won first
turn and decided to go first hoping my 3 squads of lootas could kill whatever
he decided to deploy or just force him to reserve everything. The board and my
deployment looked like this…
I deployed my 3 loota squads across the board so I could
cover every spot on his end with 2 squads at worst and made sure they were 13
inches from the side so his scorpions couldn’t assault (4 objectives were
18inches from the side 12 from players edge w/ a single 5th
objective in the center of the board)
My battlewagons deployed in the middle grouped up so the
KFF(white battlewagon has kff and shootas, yellow with ram has nobs+ thraka,
and yellow normal has slugga choppas) could hit all of them and it left me with
the option of pushing towards either side if he decided to deploy away.
Against my better judgement I decided to deploy one of the
koptas near my lootas on my weak side in hopes he would stupidly decide to
deploy something and I could suicide the koptas in the scout move and take out
an early vehicle…he was NOT stupid and decided to reserve everything…damn.
Turn 2 Orks
I pushed all three wagons to the middle blocking as much as
I could with the hill in the front and turning them to have front armor for
most of his oncoming army…my boyz rolled a 4 and the 30 man squad I was hoping
wouldn’t come in till turn 4 came in. I rolled a 2 with the kopta and the
reserve squad stayed out which was nice.
I decided to bring the 30 man squad on my right to protect
my objective and lootas. A 30 man squad would be tough for a 10 man scorpion
unit considering he can reach me when he comes on and would have to take a
whole lot of shots before getting to me.
End of my turn 2 looked like this
*The def koptas actually turbo boosted to the left across
the hill
**from this point on I start forgetting pictures and use my
other camera.
Turn2 Eldar
He rolls for all his units and with his autarch he can
choose +1(3+ ) or the normal 4+ for his units…
Eldrads unit makes it, Storm Guardians miss, walking DA make
it, Firedragons make it, both spinner and prism make it, both scorpions and
walkers miss, and spiders w/ autarch make it.
He drops the spiders in a risky spot about 6.5 inches from
the table edge and about 10 inches from the lootas to my left…and gets a hit!
Those lootas are now in trouble.
His Spinner and Prism both come in at the middle of his edge
behind trees hoping to get some clear shots at the koptas that turbo boosted
and the lootas. His walking guardians came in to his right and made their run
into the terrain close to their objective. The firedragons turboboost to
support the spiders incase my nobs can’t resist the easy killpoint. Eldrads
unit hides behind the ruin terrain on his table edge getting some cover.
His shooting was pretty lackluster with him only taking out
5 lootas from spiders but my lootas stick around. He shoots his prism and
nightspinner at my koptas hoping to kill them but the 3+ cover lets me survive
and I lose a wound on each from his spinners shot.
Turn 3 Orks
My koptas end up coming in and they outflank to my left…I
wanted right but I think the left is ok as his spiders, walking da, and fire dragons
are to that side. I move them behind his Fire dragon WS and set up for 2 rear
armor shots.
My battlewagons all move 13’ to the left towards his
spiders, which he jumped back 8 inches towards his guardians in the assault
phase of turn 2. I decide to go all out with my slugga choppa boyz and try to
make the assault…worried about my range I call the waaagh in the shooting phase
so I can multi-assault his spiders(forgetting they have hit and run)…I reach
with ease and regret calling the waaagh.
My wounded koptas just turbo boost in front of the prism and
spinner in hopes he wastes shots at them next turn.
In shooting my lootas to the left and middle all shoot at
his Fire Dragons. I do something crazy like a total of 16 hits in total and
roll 7 pens and 4 glances. He saves 3 out of the 7 pens and 2 glances…his WS is
off the board at this point…at least I THOUGHT!! All I needed was a single 4 to
wreck the thing and leave his fire dragons stuck for the whole game… Pen Rolls=
1,1,2,2,2…Glance Rolls= 3, 4,1 I guess some things you just have to laugh at.
I was bummed to say the least but I still have 2 koptas shooting rear armor
right? They both miss their first shots and luckily hit on the twin linked
rolls…both pen and he saves both. YIKES! At this point I really want to down
this Fire Dragon WS so I should my last squad of 11 lootas and roll a 1 so I
will only get 11 shots. Normally when Charlie and I play this is when I get a
lucky and blow it up but for the first time in a year I didn’t get a single
HIT. Ohwell.
In assault I multi-assulted his spiders and DA. I knew I
would win combat res with ease so I only put 5 models in b2b with the Dire
Avengers and the rest against the spiders. I blocked the Autarch from getting
into the assault. He ended up killing 4
guys and I returned killing only 9 total(pretty low considering the
number of attacks I had). His spiders passed their leadership and bounced out
of the assault using hit and run…dang. His Dire Avengers failed and would run
off the board the next turn.
Turn3 Eldar
Charlie rolled two 1’s so only one scorpion squad came in
along with the Storm Guardians. The Scorpions outflanked from his right and
were just in range to assault the weekend slugga choppa boys.
His storm guardians along with eldrad’s(fortuned his tank,
doomed koptas, fortuned another tank I think- I never shot at it.) Wave Serpent
moved flat out on my right flank leaving about 20 inches or so between his
units and my 2 units.
His spiders and moved over to shoot/assault the remaining
lootas, fire dragons moved flat out behind my lines but hugging the table edge,
his two tanks moved to my right, his left and backed up to his table edge.
Because he moved flat out with most of his vehicles he only
had shooting from the nightspinner and prism, scorpions, and spiders. He
decided against shooting the lootas with what was left of his spiders as one
kill would have taken him out of assault range and prob. wanted to tie those
guys up to get the kill point. His spinner and prism both went for the kopta
again I believe but failed to do anything missing with the prism and I saved 2
wounds from spinner.
In assault I knew I wouldn’t have a strong chance against
his scorpions as they are hitting first and doing dmg on 4+… I was right. He
dished out 16 wounds and I saved 1 but had my nob left to swing who killed 2
scorpions but was cut down in his glory after.
The next assault was between his spiders and my lootas…he
managed to do 2 wounds(power wpns and all) and I saved one. I swung back with 8
hits putting 6 wounds on the Autarch and he saved them all on his 3+.
Turn 4 Orks
I decided to separate the nobs and remaining boys at this
point…I figured I would have 1 full loota squad to take out the dragons wave
serpent again and that’s if I didn’t get it with a deffroll hit first. I knew the nobs would make quick work of
his scorpions and hopefully my lootas on the far right could take out the storm
guardians (they had flamers so they were the next highest target being troops).
So I moved the shoota boyz to the bottom left and tried a
ram against his fire dragon wave serpent which he dodged…I then got the boyz
out right next to his spiders and got ready to save the lootas.
The nobz tank shocked the scorpions to get them closer to
the objective and in range of an assault from thraka and his mates. I moved one
of the koptas to his rear table
edge to shoot and hopefully assault his prism and spinner but I did not have
high hopes as they had been missing all game. The other squad went towards his
dragons in an effort to blow it up.
In shooting my koptas struck out, the lootas did nothing to
the firedragons(AGAIN!) but I did
manage to stop his guardians with a single pen and wrecked the wave serpent.
They passed their leadership and got out.
In assault the boyz cleaned house and the nob instagibbed
his autarch…this was good and bad
as I got 2 KP but found out later he decided to bring a flamer wpn with his
dragons which I didn’t know.
Turn 4 Eldar
He moved his spinner and prism further away from my koptas which had assaulted
his walkers walked in from my left right in the corner. The firedragons moved
up to shoot and assault the boyz squad, his DA and Storm Guardians both pushed
fwd in an effort to take out the lootas and boyz and his last scorpion squad
came in on my right, right near the 30 man boyz squad. Eldrad doomed both the
30 man boyz and lootas on my right and got guide off on his DA he left to do
his dirty work.
In his shooting the walkers killed the koptas on my left and
his WS with eldrad killed the koptas near his edge with the scatter laser. The
spinner hit the boyz causing 4-5 wounds maybe and he shot 2 flamers and a
destructor at the lootas causing 4 more wounds leaving me with 4 lootas. He
then shot all his DA(didn’t bladestorm) into my 5 lootas causing 11 wounds. I
went to ground and made 10 3+ saves then passed my leadership of 7. His Fire
Dragons ended up killing 8 of the boyz from shooting and then assaulted…
I beat the dragons which had me winning the assault by 1 but
he stuck on his leadership of 8.
Turn 5
I decided to bite the bullet and roll for the web (from the
nightspinner hit) on my boyz and move them to multi-assault his dire guardians
and dire avengers. I lost 5 of 25 or 26 but was able to get in range for a nice
multi assault.
I moved my nobs back in the closest wagon, thraka got into
the empty slugga choppa wagon and
move toward the middle in hope that he could either support my lower left
objective or contest the far side if needed. The kff big mek and his wagon
moved towards the other three attempting a ram on the way and moved towards the
top objective. The Fire Dragon WS rolled a 3 and dodged my ram again so no luck
there. I shot my one loota squad at his walkers only killing one and stunning
the rest…at this point the killpoints were going to be close but the only thing
that really mattered was that my boyz killed his two squads…which they should.
In assault my shoota boyz cut through his firedragons with
ease and consolidated towards their objective on my left lower corner. My
slugga choppa boyz ended up losing 10 guys and a wound on the nob which was way
more than I expected because I forgot they had been doomed the previous turn.
He rolled a bit above average but that’s the game. I decided to allocate all
the possible attacks on the storm guardians as I was hitting on 3’s…it worked
well but in the end I only did 13 total wounds and he saved 4 which meant I
lost the combat and had to take fearless saves…and failed to roll a 6. At this
point I knew the game would be tough to win as his scorpions would run down my
remaining boyz on the right side objective and my lootas would get shot or
assault so they couldn’t contest. My only hope was that I could stop hold up
his WS and prism so he couldn’t contest my two objectives.
Eldar Turn 5
He moved the prism over to shoot at my big mek battlewagon…the
walkers moved up to assault the 7-10 remaining shoota boyz and eldrad moved to
shoot at the depleted loota squad near the right objective. Eldrad doomed the
lootas in the middle, fortuned his dire avengers, and got another power off but
it didn’t have an impact.
He had very little shooting through the rest of the game but
when he did shoot it crushed me. His nightspinner hit my full loota squad
killing 3 and forcing a leadership check which I failed on an 9 (needed an 8).
His prism shot the big mek battlewagon and scattered something like 8 inches
right into my nob wagon and blew it up. His free WS shot their guns at my 3
remaining lootas near the right objective and forced me to go to ground again…I
passed my leadership and protected the KP but it was a lost cause as his scorpions,
avengers, and guardians would have the chance to kill the last sole loota next
turn.
In the assault phase his scorpions destroyed the last few
boyz and his troops consolidated towards the objective. He assaulted me with
his walkers causing 2 wounds and I only removed a wpn with my nob. Luckily I
made my leadership roll of 5 and stayed locked in combat. I was hoping my nob
would kill both walkers and leave thraka to contest his only objective but
because he survived it would force me to throw thraka into the walkers in
attempt to keep the KP spread under 4.
Turn 6
The turn started off with me rolling double 6’s for me
regroup on the lootas forcing them off the table…not a great start but at this
point they wouldn’t have been able to shoot and it was getting late so we
agreed to end the game at the end of turn 6 so no real loss there but it did
force me to get a KP or he would be 4 over(assuming he would kill my solo
loota). Thraka moved into the walkers and I attempted to double ram the empty Fire
Dragon WS but he dodged both attempts. My nobs tried to kill his prism but it
saw me getting some more pens with no immobilized or exploded. This was the
game as KP would be tied and I had no way of contesting his objective and he
had three options to contest both of mine.
In the end it was a great game. Charlie played well and
capatilized on some big errors I made and did a nice job on using timely powers
and combined shooting.
