Sisters of Battle

So this past weekend I used this list at a 2k Colonial GT qualifier and it served me fairly well, however I dont see it being able to beat the current Daemon Meta. I also see this list having a tough time against anything that can block my ability to move(i experienced this in my final game at the top table vs a Daemon Chariot(9 of those big bases is a pain!)/Screamer/Flamer spam.

Any suggestions on changes? I think I may try out some combi-flamers on all the superiors and possibly ally in marines for null zone and a scout squad or something i can use to get an outflanking or quick linebreaker point.

(i have exluded points because i dont have my list on hand so a few things may be a little off)

HQ

St. Celestine

Troops

3x Battle Sisters(10) in Rhino w/ dozer & light(on 2 rhinos). 2 meltas and melta bombs on superior

Battle Sisters(10) in Rhino w/ dozer. 2 flamers and melta bomb on superior

Battle Sisters(10) w/ 2 flamers and melta bomb superior

Fast Attack

2x Seraphim squad (8) with 2 flamer pistols and superior with melta bomb and power sword

Dominion Squad(5) with 2 meltas and superior with bombs. Immolator w/ multi-melta

Heavy Support

2x Piano Tanks

1xRet Squad(5) with 4 Heavy Bolters

Aegis D Line w/ quadgun.

The list worked out well in the tournament for the most part. I was able to get max points game one vs. black templar. Game 2 was closer as it was against a Daemon player but his list was not the Meta Screamer/flamer spam list. It was a great game that saw me winning in the end. Game 3 was at the top table vs. a very competitive player using 9 chariots, 18 screamers and 18 flamers(those numbers might be a bit off) and then 2 small horror squads along side 3 plaguebearer squads.

I feel like the list was at its strongest with the open board as I can control fairly well with the mobility it offers. I find that my rhinos rarely die turn 1 which allows me to get into good position. The seraphim normally do their job and get their points back or at least take all the fire and get their points that way.

Celestine is worth her points and more so I cant complain there.

I just have very little counter to fast assault units like screamers and wraiths. With wraiths at least I have a TON of metla and st8 shots i can unload + all the bolter shots. I think the two hardests list for this build right now would be wraithwing with three barges and the obvious daemon lists.

What do you guys think? Am I missing something obvious to help deal with those types of lists? What would you do to lower this to the 1850 point level?

  1. The army is certainly lacking any counter-punch; something that can engage those fast combat units which want to tie up your sisters blocks. Sisters suffer that even poor combat units can tie them up for half the game and effectively ‘waste’ the points spent on them. We get three units which can deliver a good punch to anything foolish enough to engage the sisters; Conclaves, Penitents and Repentia. Conclaves would mean a HQ swap around to unlock, which whilst it may be worth it, that’s a whole other topic of discussion. Presently you’re maxed out on your heavy slots, so Penitents go out the window only really leaving you with the option for Repentia. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy carving marines like Christmas Turkeys as much as anyone, but Repentia only really excel against tough combat units. Termies, MEQ ect. A unit of Orks bail into you’re sisters and sending in 7-8 Repentia ain’t gonna make a blind bit of difference, so I’d say you’re looking at either 1) trying to blast combat units into the ground before they touch your lines or 2) list rework to open some more options.

Personally. I’d go for option 2. I’d either Drop one Rhino and combine the two foot units into one mega sisters blob, saving on specials, the vet and rhino. I’d then either drop Celestine for Jacobus to go into the 20 strong unit (giving +1 attack and FnP, plus stubborn and +1 to faith attemps, turning them into a fairly versatile ‘all comers’ unit) and then squeeze in a Conclave mixed equally of Archos and DCAs OR drop an Exorcists and take two Penitents. Now I know people moan about Penitents, but now they don’t have to run around like idiots they’re probably our best counter attack unit. Using Rhino’s and Terrain to provide them with cover or block LOS, you can keep them relatively safe. If you make the decision you’re using it defensively rather than offensively, then it will either be a pain in the *”&$ for your opponent to seek them out and destroy them OR they have to accept they’re probably going to loose any combat unit they commit into your lines.

Secondly, and I know this is a big thing for most sisters players, but put the Exorcist security blanket down!  Exorcists are Meh at best. They cost more than a Vindicator, hit softer and are about as reliable as a premier league footballer. I understand they’re our only long ranged anti-tank, but why do you want long range anti-tank? You have Dominions outflanking/scouting to engage backfield armour. Enough melta splattered around to deal with any armour approaching your line, Krak Grenades on the Seraphim to hunt down Transports ect and rending Heavy Bolters which can hit just as hard as the Exo anyway. There is no synergy with exorcists in the modern sisters lists. We’re not a fire-line army. We want to get into midfield and rapid fire until nothing without tits is still standing. This means either 1) leaving Exo’s isolated at the back of the board or 2) bringing them forward and showing your weaker side armour to more units. You have more Anit-tank then you’d need to combat a Leman Russ company without the Exo’s, so why sink 270 points into something which ONLY offers anti tank, and doesn’t even do it reliably, AND struggles with heavy (AV14) armour. Personally, I’d ditch both the Exo’s, and add in some Penitents (which are WAY better at smashing vehicles anyway, D6+4 Strength 10 attacks on the charge? Yes please!) or take a confessor (i.e. Jacobus) and a conclave (275 points for Jacobus, conclave and a rhino).

    My 2 cents anyway :)
